BTW, I'm totally for a massive rail system. I just think buses are a waste of time and money.

Bus, if done right are not a waste of time and money. Give buses signal priority, dedicated lanes, off board fare collection, etc. and watch them fill up. eg: Seattle

100% this. If done right, buses are some of the best assets a transit agency can have. They're even meeting the needs of African megacities that do not have metro/rail systems.

Why throw more good money at something that has no metric which shows improvement?
So you're saying don't expand it because it's not expanding?

Because Africa is the gold standard for transportation. Pardon me if I'd rather draw transit inspiration from Europe and Japan.

Awesome, I support paying higher taxes for better infrastructure.

Me too!

Our stances in rail are actually extremely similar. I just don't think you have to not build roads to do it or take away lanes of traffic and give them to bikes.

Dedicated bus/bike lanes.

Do you want to help provide a solution? I understand it is easy for everyone here to just vent, but we could be a lot more productive here. The CEO of our rapid transit authority announced he wants to invest $100bln in infrastructure and tech. How would you (as in everyone reading this, not just ATLTJL) want to spend the funds?

Here's More MARTA's cost per mode breakdown for everyone's reference to chime in and try and be a part of the solution. Or y'all can keep complaining about how you live in a house that isn't near any density whatsoever and it'd take you three bus transfers to get to your job. Your choice.

Capital Costs by mode
  • ART = $2.5M/mile
  • BRT = $25M/mile
  • Freeway BRT = $15M/mile
  • LRT on BeltLine = $55M/mile
  • LRT off of BeltLine = $75M/mile
  • LRT w/ tunnels = $200M/mile
  • HRT = $250M/mile
Anyone have an estimate for CRT?
