Well, I guess this isn’t going away quite yet. They’ve done a terrible job of building grassroots support so far. Or articulating a vision, or problems to solve, or solutions to problems. But they are hiring lobbyists and aiming for a referendum.

Seems like real estate developers with self-interest in mind. But...they have shared so little info that’s just the assumption I make.

Cityhood is getting beat down on nextdoor.com. Someone researched and proved utility costs would immediately go up due to a fee companies can charge by law for having to deal with a city government. Tax increase already. This is gonna be on the ballot in spring but looks grim.

No. Unless they filed it in the last legislative session it will take another year before it can go to the ballot. The system requires new cities to undergo a two year process. And if they did, it would have to be passed in this session and so the ballot wouldn't be until summer and probably fall.

Vista Grove got filed last session. No sure if any others did. I know Greenhaven was trying but don't know if they found a sponsor.

They filed it. They are hoping for spring 2020 referendum. And fall 2020 elected officials. I definitely could see them not even moving to referendum based on how vehemently the community hates the idea. Sounds like maybe Jan before it becomes clear. Unless they just give up, which they should. IMHO.

From MDJ:

Though the bill to establish a referendum for the city of East Cobb was introduced just prior to state legislators’ final day of the session, its sponsor says it is just the first step in a two-year process.

Sponsored by state Rep. Matt Dollar, R-east Cobb, House Bill 718 would likely put the cityhood question before residents in 2020 if signed into law. The bill is expected to be read on the House floor and then assigned a committee; no further action will be taken on it until representatives return to work in January.

From recent years, these things don't get passed until very late in the session. So spring is basically over when it gets passed. Spring is just not realistic.
