BB&T bought Suntrust. BB&T is based in Winston- Salem which is a city that exists in the state of North Carolina. The merger will form a new bank out of the two.

North Carolina and Alabama banking laws are better setup for financial institution HQs than Georgia. Atlanta is not really a fin-tech hub. Whereas Charlotte, Miami, and ironically Birmingham are fin-tech strong cities in the South. I don't expect Atlanta to be a player in that arena because of the more network type of economy that has emerged in the Southeast cities that are thriving and competing. Atlanta will be regional HQs and main HQ of some major corps but not all, and that has to be accepted as reality.

This feels like unfortunate news. But Atlanta's economy is strong enough that it can absorb a blow such as this.

I wonder if SunTrust Park will be renamed soon? BB&T Park? Not to be confused with BB&T Ballpark which sits, coincidentally, in Charlotte.

A part of me is still waiting with baited breath for Turner/CNN to officially make NYC or LA their HQ.
What do they do in LA?

Kind of a common pattern. United and Continental Airlines did the same thing with CEOs.

Most of the above the line and below-the-line film work for the non-CNN channels.

These days, the work in Atlanta is all back office support (which normally isn't a HQ function).

BB&T Not So Proud, I guess.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned SunTrust Park yet...
