After a monthlong “going out of business” celebration, Truett’s Pizza Cafe in Fayetteville closed at 8 pm tonight ... much to the dismay and disappointment of diehard CFA fans. Truett’s Pizza is one of TWO CFA brands that were totally unique to Fayetteville — the other being Truett’s Luau. The pizza cafe (which originally opened as Upscale Pizza) was a personal experiment by Mr. Cathy and featured his private collection of model cars. It was open for 11 years. In addition to pizza, calzones, wings and salads, they served chili dogs and onion rings just like The Varsity.

According to sources, corporate made the hard decision to close the restaurant not because of sales but because the menu wasn’t part of the CFA supply lien which increased costs.

Truett’s Luau is alive and well and unlikely to go anywhere since it was literally Mr. Cathy’s dying project. The company bent over backward to make that happen before he passed away just a few months after opening.

INTETESTING FACT: Counting Truett’s Pizza, CFA has 8 restaurants in Fayette County — including 4 (four) CFA locations in Peachtree City alone. By contrast, there are only 2 CFA locations in Coweta and just 4 in Henry (with double the population).

It was one of the favorite places for my elderly mom and her sister. I took them there every time I visited. We will really miss it.

It's sad when old favorites close.
