My company is planning a Relocation 4th quarter 2019. I am in discussion with them about relocation. I lived in Decatur & Stone Mountain for 27 years before moving to NC. I know neighborhoods have changed dramatically since I left - and looking for advice. Single woman with a small dog wanting a “safe” area that won’t entail 1-12 hour commutes each way! Wondering if Toco Hills is still a decent area and how the commute up 85 would be daily? I’m unsure about Gwinnett as I know nothing about the area.

Toco Hills is a more than decent area, but a lousy commute to PC now matter how you cut it.
Why not start your search in Peachtree Corners? It's also a decent area IMO.

It's about 30 minutes from 85&Clairmont to PIB + PEachtree Corners Circle; The way back is about 35-45. Add in 10-20 minutes depending on where in Toco Hills you'll be. Spaghetti Junction is the biggest struggle unless you can flex your hours. About 15-20 minutes to get through the intersection.

As long as I was single or child-free I vowed to never live in Peachtree Corners and be bored out of my mind.

Also - I did midtown-peachtree corners for 3 years and that was 1 hour on the way home; I did Decatur to Peachtree Corners for 4 years and that was 45 minutes and became 1 hour+ as the years went by. That drive is probably more than 75 minutes nowadays. Avoid at all costs.

That's what I'd do. Peachtree Corners is a happening place these days. It's also got great access to the rest of the city.
