But hopefully things will really change this time. I have good feelings about it...again.
I think the only difference between then and now — the missing link, if you will — is that now people actually want to live downtown. For all those years, I think downtown was promoted as a touristy place to visit, but not necessarily to stay. I think all this has more of a chance this time around because many people now want to live (work and play) within Atlanta’s urban core...

I feel good about it this time because I see so much positive development in other parts of the city. In the past something like this might have been too risky but now it seems like a sure bet.

Massive Centennial Yards Project Advances Downtown With Key Permit Filing

Los Angeles-based CIM Group this week advanced its plans to redevelop the downtown Gulch site — 50 acres of parking lots and former rail-yards — into Centennial Yards, a nearly 12 million-square-foot mixed-use development including retail, office, residential, and hotel. The real estate firm submitted a building permit application with the City of Atlanta for utility work needed to ready the site for vertical construction..."

Seems like shaky timing.

Its not clear what the office market will look like after the virus has passed. Seems like there will be a permanent change to more remote working. Companies will try to shed office space.

Not really. It will take several years to construct the massive deck needed to support the development. There is plenty of time for the plans to be tweaked in regards to the mix of uses.

Like mine, i'm not going back. I imagine there are a lot of office workers that are going to realize how glorious it is to work from home and not have to sit in traffic or any of that nonsense. Started my own business and using the ol office gig to prop myself up in the meantime.

This new development is sure to have plenty of dim bulbs eating under dim bulbs.

Lots of square and rectangular plates too, because round plates are boring.
