Thirty years ago, Forsyth County garnered national headlines as civil rights marchers, protected by the National Guard, marched through the county seat of Cumming, opposed by members of the Ku Klux Klan and their supporters.

Today, Forsyth County has a 60-acre cricket field complex, popular with people of Indian descent.“Who knew, little old Forsyth County with the cricket field?” asked Molly Cooper, a county commissioner. It’s one more sign of how this now-suburban community north of Atlanta is increasingly becoming a cultural base for a growing minority community. In a recent one-year period, Forsyth had the fastest-growing Asian population of all U.S. counties of at least 20,000 or more residents, according to data released today by the Census Bureau.

Good going Forsyth.. I have seen this coming since 2009. When we moved to South Forsyth from Bay Area in 2009, I could see the similarities between Alpharetta/Johns Creek/South Forsyth and Bay Area.

If we count South Forsyth only, I would say one in every 3 residents are Asian. A lot of the communities on Peachtree Parkway off of Exit 13 are 80-90% Asian Indian..

Yep. Many folks still think that Forsyth County is the same county that garnered national attention back in the 80s for its bastion of racism. No longer. While we were marketing our home in St. Marlo earlier this year, out of the 30 lookers we had, only one couple was caucasion. That's saying something!

Is it mainly just Indians with jobs in tech? Or is it Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese, etc.?

Being in close proximity to mountains, lakes and high-paying tech jobs will do wonders for the demographics of a community.

It's mainly Indians with a couple of Chinese people and Korean people thrown in the mix. Asian Indians are the main ethnicity driving the fast growth of the Asian demographic in Forsyth. In the Asian category, I would say over 65-70% are of Indian descent.

There are very few Vietnamese in metro Atlanta outside of Clayton County and Gwinnett County.

Our next door neighbors were Korean, folks next to them African American, folks across the street were Iranian, folks next to them were Indian. Pretty darn diverse!

That’s St Marlo which is right next to Johns Creek in the far south portion of the county. That portion of the county (St Marlo especially) and the far southwest corner of the county is the most diverse. As you head further north from St Marlo on Old Atlanta and Peachtree Parkway you will notice many of the subdivisions, especially the newer ones (post 2005) are mainly Asian Indian with some subdivisions in the Daves Creek Elementary area reaching close to 80-90% Asian Indian.
