Looking for feedback from those with recent experience - what is the typical rush-hour commute between the area along 85 in Sharpsburg/Tyrone to midtown Atlanta?

We are relocating back to Atlanta after a 2-year stint in Birmingham. Focusing our home search in this area and trying to stay very close to 85 in hopes of trimming the commute to about 1 hour each way.

Why? Because we can't afford to live ITP and need some proximity to homeschool groups. We know from experience that our former community in north Gwinnett county is 1.5 hour commute on average.

I've loved the detail and perspective so far on some of the threads discussing the suburbs south of the city. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I'm in Newnan and on balance, I-85 south is by far the easiest drive in/out of the city in Metro Atlanta.

From Exit 47, it's about 20 minutes to/from SW Atlanta. I imagine it's slightly less (15 minutes) for the Shaprsburg / Tyrone exits (51, 56 and 61), although exits 51 and 61 tend to have intermittent back ups during rush hour which can add another 5 minutes to your drive.

At worst, on your commute coming home, normal traffic volume may get thick (but will still be flowing) through Union City ane Fairburn.

That said, commuting into work, you're going to hit heavy traffic fairly abruptly once you get on the I-75/I-85 connector, which can add anywhere from an additional 15 to 30 minutes onto your commute (on top of the 15-20 minutes it takes to get to SW Atlanta).

In summary, I would play for a 45 minute commute, mainly because of heavy traffic and delays on the connector.
