As if healthcare costs weren't already high enough, some Metro Atlantans (specifically the non-insured and those with high-deductible insurance) will have even more of a financial burden placed upon them before they can even see a doctor.

This policy already existed at certain facilities, but now it's system-wide.

So is the "high deductible" threshold actually what they say, $3000 and $5000 for individuals?

The bills I've received from Piedmont for basic visits in which no surgery was done, no skin was broken, no medication was taken, have been nothing short of robbery. It's absolute insanity how much they can charge for some things, and how little (very expensive) insurance will cover. I flat out told my doctor that in the future, they will have to tell me the cost of every procedure they refer me to before I will accept it. Because I had no idea that having an ultrasound wand rubbed over my chest for ten minutes could cost north of $3000.
