A downtown Atlanta hotel has closed its doors while officials test for a rare, and sometimes deadly, form of pneumonia.

Five people who stayed at the Sheraton Atlanta on Courtland Street tested positive for Legionnairesí disease, which is contracted by breathing in mist or swallowing water containing bacteria..."

Yikes. That’s scary. Hope the people recover, said 1 in 10 cases are usually fatal.

I was a block away for 4 days last week, glad I didn’t duck in for a drink.

Doesn't Legionnaire's disease come from contaminated air conditioning units? I think that's what they determined with the first cases (in Pennsylvania as I recall) many years ago, and other cases since then.

It can be from the AC units. My money is on the hot tub or the pool as the source.

A Legionnaires' outbreak that has sickened possibly dozens of people started at the Sheraton Atlanta, the Georgia Department of Public Health confirmed Thursday, saying test results indicated Legionella bacteria in the hotel’s cooling tower and in a decorative fountain in the atrium..."
