Hi Everyone. I am a newly divorced mom in Florida considering relocating to Peachtree City w my two kids. They are both high school aged and homeschooled so will continue on with that. I am not a professional but have a small work from home business and would be seeking part time employment in most likely retail etc. Will probably start out renting and then if I feel comfortable will consider buying. I heard the prices of rentals are high in PTC but coming from Florida they seem pretty comparable. And seems like there are more than enough places to seek employment. I guess some concerns I have are if it'll be affordable, employment obviously, rental prices, kids social activities, safety etc. Dont really have any specific questions just looking for input and advice.
Thanks for any help

Hi, we lived in the Tampa Bay area of Florida for 4 years and have been in Peachtree City area for the past 14 years. In general, all of metro Atlanta is more family oriented than Florida, especially Peachtree City. It's perfect for kids/families. It is one of the safest areas in Georgia and the schools are some of the best in the state. There are a ton of amenities too like a skate park, athletic complex, parks, lakes, golf courses, pools, aquatic center, bmx track, and of course the golf cart paths. All kids 15 and older can drive a golf cart with a learner's permit, and with 100 miles of cart paths, they can go virtually
anywhere in town. The kids here are also very involved in activities. Many play on club travel teams for soccer, lax, baseball, and softball. Last year, Peachtree City's little league team was on TV when they went to the Little League World Series, and the entire town came out for the send off party. They are only a couple of wins away from going again.

Peachtree City is an affluent area, and relatively homogenous. Most families are middle to upper middle class. There weren't many areas like this in Florida. Where we lived in Florida, the zoning was crazy. You'd go from $1M+ homes on the water to low income housing a block away, and a Church a block away from a strip club, so the public schools in Florida were always hit or miss. It's not like that in metro Atlanta. Areas tend to be more homogenous.

As for prices, my sister was able to find a 3/2 rental near Lake Peachtree for around $1500 a month a year ago, but any home rentals under that are rare.

Also, jobs in retail are more prevalent on the Northside, but there are options in Peachtree City, Newnan, or Sharpsburg. In fact, a new Costco is opening right next to Peachtree City in Sharpsburg in just a couple of weeks.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Here are some local links. I'd also recommend joining the Life in the PTC Bubble Facebook page. There's a ton of info on there. There is also a Konos academy in nearby Tyrone for homeschool kids. I think it's Christian based though. They offer sports teams, and educational opportunities.
