Got hired for a job and I start on Tuesday August 6th. I'm trying to find a room to rent; being that I'm starting the home buying process, and don't want to get locked in to a lease. Any suggestions/recommendations? I'll be working in the 30339 zip code area.

1. Website like airbnb
2. Craigslist you can sometimes find temporary housing.

Being that you start work in just 4 days, your options are really limited. You might have to end up just staying at a hotel until you can find temporary housing. Who knows how long it will take you to find a permanent home.

There are several extended stay hotels in 30339 and in the adjacent 30080. Extended Stay America on Cumberland Parkway at Paces Ferry Road comes to mind, as does the Hyatt Place on Cumberland Boulevard and Spring Hill Parkway. I would think those would be among your best bets. 30339 (Vinings) is generally a very nice place to live - good amenities, close to the city and two major interstates, not too much traffic. I lived in the vicinity for over 15 years and enjoyed it.

Good luck in your move! I moved here from Tampa Bay over 20 years ago, and I am still here, so I guess I like it well enough!

I moved from Tampa to Atlanta ~25 years ago, and couldn't wait to return back to Florida where I am now. I'm betting the OP will do the same eventually.

Georgia has a 6% income tax and Atlanta has horrendous traffic. Besides that, the Northern burbs are a nice place to raise a family, and the rolling hills and lush forestry is a nice change from Florida.

I could have done much worse. Best of luck to the Op. Rent before you buy so you can learn how to avoid the worst traffic patterns.

I hope you knew about the 6% income tax thing so you negotiated that into your new pay rate.

I was just gonna say... I think the traffic flow of people leaving Atlanta for Tampa is much greater than the opposite.

Most people I know who have done that are extremely happy they did. I only know one person interested in returning to Atlanta out of the the handful of people I've seen leave for Tampa.

Wages are higher here, and the cost of living is basically the same. It's a step up for many ex-Floridians.

I moved here from Orlando years ago, and have never regretted it. I love Tampa Bay and may possibly end up there when I retire, but would seriously miss our four season climate and amenities.

Yeah, I currently live in Tampa and can't wait to get back to Atlanta myself.
