Hello, I'm relocating to Georgia for work in Monroe. I have a family with 2 boys (11,15). I'm looking to move in the Conyers area because it's not that far of a drive. Safety and schools are important. We're looking to rent a three bedroom for $1250 max. Is this realistic or would it be better in Covington?

If schools are most important, then you may want to look at Walton or Barrow County. The schools in Rockdale County (Conyers)
aren't highly ranked. If you do look in Newton County (Covington), the schools on the Eastside of the county generally rank higher than the schools on the Westside of the county.

Here's some info on the local schools:

Newton County:

Rockdale County:

Walton County:

Barrow County:

I'd avoid both at all costs...I used to live in both cities during their prime and they were great at that time but unfortunately I caught the tail end of the era that those communities were good. They have had some serious degradation over the past 2 decades as far as quality of life, crime, gangs, and school ranks are concerned.

Eastern Gwinnett is probably a bit better... like, toward Grayson area.

I live in Conyers, and I have for 15 or so years. It's truly the average Atlanta suburb in my opinion.

Covington is something from the 60's. Parts of it are perfectly fine, but over all? No thank you.

Was Conyers ever really that great?

Even back in the 90s, it became known nationally for its massive syphilis outbreak.

i don't know y'all, downtown conyers is hopping recently. it seems a lot nicer than it did just a few years ago. plus, school ratings are extremely unhelpful for the education system writ large, it just encourages all the parents who can afford to do so to congregate in a few school districts and leave other districts suffering, making the better school districts more and more expensive and the school districts more and more unequal. it's a bad cycle.

It was definitely better than it is now.
