Freeways and highways are barriers.

In Atlanta, as in dozens of cities across America, daily congestion is a direct consequence of a century-long effort to segregate the races.

Atlanta has some of the worst traffic in the United States.
Already, half this board is going to disagree with this report from the first line.

Or do you agree Atlanta has awful traffic when admitting that benefits your point of view?

Most of the disagreement comes from how to fix it.

While a lot of the MARTA stuff was racial, and I understand how white-flight as a whole contributed to sprawl and the resulting gridlock—I am not clear on how the placement of 85 and 20 really are significant contributors to traffic. I mean a mayor can brag about how 85 is going to keep the races separate in the city, but it’s still a highway serving the city, where was it going to go?

Exactly. The interstates were going to be built so white supremacist used them for segregation purposes. That gets twisted to create interstates are racist and racists things need to be removed. In reality the location might have been racists, but we still need the interstate.

I just got back from San Diego, a smaller metro than here. Their traffic is every bit as bad as ours, and they have way more freeways than we do.

Go figure.

Its not. Its just more race baiting for clicks.

The biggest contributor to traffic was not separating I-85 and I-75 in the first place.

Go anywhere in the south. Or the midwest. Or shoot... the entire country.

Interstates carved up plenty of white neighborhoods, too. Go to any hotel or tall building in Buckhead and check out how GA-400 totally bisects the entire are. It was already a very wealthy, mostly white area when that happened.

I think this guy is reaching. He seems to have a bone to pick with Atlanta, he's done it before.

Well, it’s not like the actions/words of previous generations haven’t made Atlanta an easy target—and the MARTA stuff really isn’t a reach, and as a whole white flight has contributed to sprawl/traffic—although cheap land, and hunger for growth probably made sprawl inevitable anyway.
