Hi everyone,
I currently live in Maryland and work in DC/northern VA. I have been doing this for 15 years now and am looking for somewhere that is a lot more calm and laid back than here. Also looking at the housing prices, which seems to be great in Athens. I lived in Athens for 2 years, back when the Olympics were in town in 1996. I really enjoyed living there, but that was awhile ago and I was single than. I am in my 40s now and would like to slow down my pace. I am in sales and am wondering what the job market is for this area? I liked the small town feel of Athens and how close Atlanta is if I want to go to the bigger city once in awhile.
Any insight is appreciated.

Thank you

The job market is good, but the pay is bad. A lot of people are willing to work for peanuts to live in Athens. Try and work remotely.

If you have kids schools will be your biggest hurdle.

Great. Thanks for the info. I have no kids so no worries there and how are the hospitals in the area?

Hospitals are very good, as long as you don’t need them after a big game—seriously, when one of my boys was about 4 he busted his nose on a night that Georgia beat Auburn—he didn’t get his stitches until 1:30 in the morning—drunk students just overwhelmed the emergency rooms! But, it was a great place to live. Almost everything you could want in a city, but cheaper, friendlier, and with less traffic (except on game days, and that can mostly be avoided).

I've been there and it seems like a really nice town. Walked the UGA campus and went and saw the Dawg Walk in 2016.

Staying tuned for further first hand experiences and pointers.

This.

Fat job with AT&T in midtown or Lenox, work from home 3 days a week or more.

My sister lives there and works in Education. Have a few friends that work for the University. Not great pay but good benefits. Know another friend that works as a manufacturing rep. There may be some jobs like that around the surrounding area. But the lifestyle is really good there. Very friendly town. Lot of good theater and music that is part of the University; not to mention sports.
