People who won't cross to a perfectly usable sidewalk because it will take them 30 feet out of their way, and instead walk in the road. People who run in the road wearing all black at night. People who ride bikes against traffic to "increase their visibility". In other words, self-righteous, egotistical, ignorant people. I have no respect for those types of people, and don't feel like I, or anyone else, should have to substantially alter my life to accommodate someone like that. I follow the rules of the road (minus the speed limit in many areas because it's artificially low) and always watch for pedestrians and bikers. But, if they can't care for themselves, who should?

None of that "caring" is enough to stop the killing from cars. Designing the streets to slow the cars or separate the uses is.

If you can't care for yourself, I can't care for you. Point blank, end of story. If you are a danger to yourself, you should be put in jail. See what I did there?

I could see it winding up in court if some business or neighborhood winds up being blocked out.

Well, again, I'm in favor of it but it will have to done so that the planters don't block access to somebody's driveway or business.

Saw that had a designated scooter parking on west peachtree near Marlow's. It was on the sidewalk but a good start to creating spaces for scooters.

Agreed. They have them all over downtown and midtown.

As for vehicle deaths, the general rate is one fatality (vehicle, motorcycle, pedestrian, etc) per 86 million miles. There have been four scooter deaths in a little more than 2.2 million miles, or one every 500,000-600,000 miles. That is a rate nearly 150 times that of all vehicular deaths. Nothing will support your statement that "long car trips are more dangerous".
Yes, there is something.

Long enough exposure (mileage) at a lower risk can still cause the PROBABILITY of a vehicular death to SURPASS that of a higher risk mode of transportation taking a very short, low-mileage trip.

I can't wait to see all the utility trucks blocking full lanes because they can't cross the cyclist and scooter barriers to pull up against the curb.
