I could be wrong, but I think vining's is actually a premium to East Cobb, no?

Yes. It now has the same "premium" as Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Brookhaven, Dunwoody, Intown Atlanta, etc.

Thanks. Based on the online research I've done so far, Smyrna appears to be somewhat affordable. Vinings is on the high end, but it looks like a more mature area where we may enjoy residing. As for traffic, we are looking at flexibile/non-traditional work schedules, so (thankfully) no 5-day stretches of nightmarish commutes. We've actually made several trips from the Marietta area to Acworth in under 40 mins, but it may have just been good timing. Thanks for everyone's input/suggestions.

On most days Smyrna to the Airport is going to be 30 minutes. I travel at least 1x per week at 7:30 am with no issue. In the past, the three miles to get onto I-285 was the worse traffic so the closer you are to the higher the better.

From Smyrna or Vinings to both Acworth and the Airport at traditional commuting times will be quick and easy. The west side of 285 southbound rarely backs up anywhere in the mornings. In the evenings southbound can back up due to the terrible I-20 intersection. In the evenings, 285 northbound can back up a bit, but there are ways around it depending on which area you live. Acworth from Smyrna/Vinings in the morning should be free flowing. And coming back in the evenings is likely not bad either. These commutes might be ones where non-traditional schedules may actually be worse!

samiwas1, we won’t be working your typical 5-day 40-hour/week schedule is what I meant. The number of commute days will be less than average. Thanks for the traffic pattern details! All of this is really helpful for a new arrival to an unfamiliar metropolitan area such a Atlanta.

I was referencing Smyrna and Vinings in aggregate. Also, don't people call Mableton called Vinings now?

I think the Smyrna/Vinings area also offers a lot more condo and townhome options than East Cobb. My friend's mom purchased a 2 bedroom condo in Vinings proper for around 200K. I think your statement is definitely true for single family homes.
