When I was house hunting about 4 years ago I stumbled across an enclave of modest MCM homes in an Atlanta neighborhood called Westwood Terrace. It is sandwiched between John A White Park (Cascade Ave.) and Westview Cemetery. Some of the streets in the neighborhood are Westwood Ave, Clover St, Montevista St, and Shirley St. This may be a good alternative for MCM lovers that don't have a 200k-500k budget. It is a quiet hidden pocket with no thru streets that is about 10 mins or less from Downtown. I remember looking in a 2/2 years ago and was surprised to see that it had exposed beams, high horizontal windows, sloped ceilings, multi sided brick fireplace, and indoor brick planters just like you would expect in a Northcrest home (although smaller). Here's an example of one I found online for 45k!!!
+ Rep to OP, because I'm a big fan of MCM design.

Oooh yay!! I know nothing about that part of town (shamefully, despite being an Atlanta native several generations back) and have never heard of Westview Terrace. Thanks for the info! Rep back atcha!

You're not alone... Like I said I happened to stumble upon it myself. Crazy thing is it is pretty close to Downtown. Also, the neighborhood is called Westwood Terrace. It's northern boundary is the Cemetery, and it's in the northern portion of the 30310.

$45,000??? I'm totally in shock. I need to get out more; I had no idea you could find any SFHs ITP for that price.
Like Intown, I'm a native but have always been clueless about the southside.

FWIW, Northcrest is featured in this quarter's Atomic Ranch magazine.

Check out Collier Heights, 30318 (N of I20 & inside I285). Funky at the edges, but wonderful Ranches and Split levels. Land was annexed by City of Atlanta in 50's/60's as a place for AfricanAmericans to live under the Jim Crow statutes of the day. Houses range from Tiny (less that 1000 sq ft) to sprawls (3000 +) because the area had to accomodate so many different economic levels of Atlanta black society in the 1950's - 60's.
Docomomo Atlanta has recognized the area, and done driving tours. Area has been submitted for National Historic designation.
