OMG!! I have had soooo many scammers and spammers send me emails in the last 2 weeks, I want to SCREAM!! I have my resume posted on numerous job search websites and even on Craigslist at one point, but it has become insane. LOL. Has anyone else had this problem?? My employer is filing bankruptcy and obviously I would like to be proactive...but my, "the times they are a changin' ". Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Research the companies within ATL that have jobs you're interested in. You can figure this out using job sites, wikipedia, whatever, esp. for the major companies. Then go to each company's careers section on their webpage and apply to that company individually. It's a pain in the ass, but I bet you'll have better luck knocking out applications for single specific positions one at a time than just posting a resume. Don't assume people are looking for you. Hunt them down and annoy them.

Companies in Atlanta don't hire directly too much in my experience. Everyone does through headhunters (which really, really sucks)

Careerbuilder is a great place to post your resume, if you do not already have it there (CareerBuilder.com Jobs - The Largest Job Search, Employment & Careers Site). Sorry to hear you posted your resume on craigslist... That's a great place for spammers to harvest addresses, and that's probably where a lot of your "scams and spams" have come from. Occasionally, craigslist has legit jobs, but I would confine my search to Careerbuilder and Monster. You'll still get scams from them, but they're pretty obvious. Search Careerbuilder and Monster every day, and update your resume frequently to keep it fresh (at the top of searchers' lists).
I've tried spreading my resume around randomly as mentioned in other posts, but I find it's usually ignored unless I'm applying for a specific job. HR people (which don't even exist at many companies anymore) don't want to read your resume and try to figure out where you fit in their company. Remember that you always want to present yourself as a solution. Friends can also help--ask around and see if any of your friends know of job openings within their companies. Good luck! -J |

Have you contacted Macy's South? You may also want to check out Havertys (corporate HQ is in Atlanta). IMO, it's MUCH better to home in on a company directly and then submit your resume to a particular person there rather than the abyss of dot.com to whom it may concern letters. As an employer myself, I cannot tell you how many responses I ignore simply because I get too many. Those who go the extra mile usually get more attention. If you can try and locate specific places (and jobs) for which you are both qualified and interested, you'll be in a much better position to network. And in this market, it's the only way to land a job.

I have also created a profile on LinkedIn.com. Don't get me wrong, I have received some calls. It's just not as fast of a process as I would like. Thanks.
