The largest city and seat of government in the dominant Northwest metro Atlanta suburb of Cobb County, Marietta, has been named on a national list as one of the best places to live in the country.

Quote:
Zillow and Yelp, Inc. crowned Marietta as one of the top ten cities in the nation to be named as a suburb with urban amenities and a big city feel. Marietta was the only city in Georgia to be named in this list and only one of two cities in the Southeast.

8. Marietta, Georgia

Cityness Index Score: 58.4
Typical home value: $318,069
Marietta is about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta, and offers residents easy access to Interstate 75 and everything Atlanta has to offer. This suburb’s spot in the top 10 is due in large part to its affordability. Although typical home values in Marietta are slightly higher than the city of Atlanta, it’s still relatively affordable compared to other nearby suburbs including Canton and Smyrna.

Known for its abundance of nature and parks, the culinary scene rivals that of Atlanta, according to Yelp.

It's what I love most about Marietta. who doesn't love a suburb that is self-sustaining with it's own historical downtown, farmer's market, unique shops and restaurants, etc.

Very much like Marietta and it’s downtown area especially but I have to admit Alpharetta’s downtown has come a long way. I am guessing this study is based on affordable middle class suburbs (I’m guessing atleast) which is why it may have excluded Alpharetta given it’s on another price point.

Can't say I'm surprised.

Yep, this study focuses on what it considers to be the best affordable suburbs in the country.

And, even though some parts of the Marietta mailing area (like the Walton, Lassiter and Pope school clusters of East Cobb) are widely regarded as being highly affluent areas, it is the relative affordability of much the Marietta mailing area outside of the Walton, Lassiter and Pope school clusters along with all of numerous amenities that the greater Marietta vicinity offers (from the recreational offerings of Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, Lake Allatoona, the Chattahoochee River Valley, the Blue Ridge Mountains, etc.; to the social, cultural, dining offerings of the historic Marietta Square; to the generally very high quality of the schools, etc.) that appears to have made the Marietta area extremely appealing to the authors of this study.

Was going to say, Marietta zip codes are a BROAD area - they stretch to Roswell.

Still, it's absolutely awesome to see that city on a list. Having gone to and graduated from Southern Poly, it's changed drastically.

MARIETTA, Ga. — Home to a thriving city square, steeped in history and famous for having a really distinctive KFC, Marietta's not a bad place to live: In fact, it's one of the best.

A recently released list included the Atlanta suburb as one of the top-10 cities to live in all of America. It was Georgia's only entry on the list.

As soon as I saw Joliet, IL, and Pasadena, TX (not California), I had to question the reliability of this study! lmao. Joliet, big prison town. Pasadena, big smelly town (A suburb of Houston, my hometown). I can name a WHOLE bunch of better suburbs in Texas than Pasadena
