Georgiapeach32 is on a distinguished road
I live in North Decatur and work at the VA Regional Office and I'm a GA native. My communte isn't bad because I live about 10 minutes away. North Decatur is where you want to be but you'll need a real good income. Rentals can run from the high 800's to the low 1000's. I would suggest that you look for apartments that are on Dekalb Industrial Way or North Decatur Rd. By all means, stay out of South Decatur! That would be the Candler Rd area, Flat Shoals Rd, Wesley Chapel and so forth. Parts of Gwinnett are okay but do you really want the commute headache? That's exactly what it'll be. If you must move to Gwinnett, I would NOT recommend Norcross as it has gone down over the years since gangs have moved in. I think Snellville is the closest Gwinnett County city to Decatur but again your commute will cause headaches! Tucker may be another option but there are too many scetchy areas there so it'll be hard to tell you where to go and not to go. I'd stay out of Chamblee and Stone Mountain, even though they are tempting and not very far. Too much crime.
