I'm not sure exactly what you want to know, but I lived in them for awhile. Are they safe? Yes. There were some minor acts of vandalism in the common areas when I lived there, but it was probably just teenagers and it wasn't a big deal. When I lived there, I never heard of any apartment break ins or car vandalism incidents.
If living in a gated community is a big thing for you, I'm not sure this place would suit your needs. While it does have a gate, it's often inoperable and residents for the most part ignore it -- they let cars in all the time. That was never an issue for me, but it really bothered some. The fixtures in the apartment are nice, the floorplans are good, the outside areas are well maintained -- the maintence team is very responsive. The front office went through several iterations in the short time I lived there. It started out subpar, but then they got a new staff which was outstanding and then it changed again right as I was leaving -- so not sure what they are like now.
Here are the pros and cons of the location: it's close to some good restaurants (chains mostly), a multiplex movie theater, gym, starbucks are practically across the street (a very busy street though so you can't walk)
-- there's a Borders/Lowes/Target/Old Navy shopping place within a five minute drive -- a hospital is very close by too. For more upscale shopping, you have to drive a ways from here but you have several choices in many different directions within about a 20/30 minute radius. Cons: getting to South Fulton isn't the worst commute in the metro from here, but you could probably do better. More than likely you'll end up taking Austell to Thorton to the 20 to the 285 to get to work. The 20 can be really backed up at certain times, but this stretch of it isn't nearly as bad as some others in the metro area. Getting to the 20 got to be a pain for me after awhile because it's a longish surface street drive. Another note, the East West connector, which is the main street you'll use to get around gets very congested at certain times, and it's a pain to run out to get some milk at 5 p.m. and getting stuck in commuter traffic.
If you want to live around here, I recommend what I think would be a much better fit for you -- the Vinings/Cumberland area. It's up the road from this complex on the East-West Connector. Look around where the 285 and 75 converge. You'll have a fantastic commute to most parts of the metro. Going south on the 285 from here is a dream, at virtually all times during the day. I lived near here for awhile and didn't realize what a gem I found for Atlanta because I had nothing to compare it too. The commute is really nice. Very little congestion and good access to most parts of the city. The area is nice too .. it's urban/suburbanish. If you're the party all night type, you might find it a little sleepy but you'll be close enough to the city to hit up the hot spots.
Also, in the immediate area -- plenty of good restaurants (local and chain), great shopping, a nice movie theater, very close to the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center -- which is becoming a major venue for the Atlanta area .. concerts, plays, stand up comedy, etc. As for your safety concern, this area is probably a little better in that regard. Century Brook is safe too, but the surrounding area of Austell is much more ghetto than Vinings.
Assuming your price range is comparable to Century Brook, I'd look into Paces Station. I have a friend who lives there, and he likes it. I have visited and it seems pretty nice. The location is truly excellent. Since you'll be working in South Fulton though, there may be even better fits for you other places... personally, if I were you, I'd stick to the north side (better access to more desirable areas) and I think West Cobb is a great choice -- less congestion = better commute than from East Cobb, Gwinnett, etc.
Hope that helps. If you have any questions I didn't cover, feel free to ask.
