Hey, All,
So, we went out today and bought a motorcycle. It's a 1980 Sportster. We got it as-is. I think it will probably need some work. We bought it from a Jeep dealer in Marietta. My husband rode it home. We got to Peachtree St and he stalled it and then it wouldn't start - just click click click click. We got it started by jumping it...you know, rolling it downhill and popping the clutch. We got it home. I'm thinking it needs a new battery. Anyone here know of a good Harley mechanic? Can't wait to ride it around.... |

If you bought a nearly 30 y/o Harley, you better stop looking for a mechanic and start looking for a book on how to work on them- you're going to be spending a ton of time fixing that thing, and if you don't learn how to do it yourself, you're about to spend a lot of $$......
Oh, and be sure to get some cardboard to put under the bike to sop up the oil that's inevitably going to drip all over the driveway! Good luck with the bike- it'll be tons of fun to cruise around on- when it's running ![]() |

I know, I've heard about these bikes!
It seems to be in good working order, just won't start and it really does sound like a dead battery issue. My car made that same clicking sound the last time it needed a brand new battery and wouldn't hold a charge. The good news it...as of right now it doesn't drip oil! Let's see how long that lasts.... Here she is! ![]() ![]() |

Definitely a dead battery. However, you may want to see if that one will take a charge and hold it also, then it would be something else.

I thought that you were shopping for a vanity table this weekend?

Well....I'm going to Kudzu today to look for a vanity table. On Saturday I did go to the West End Goodwill but they were rather short on furniture.
quadomonkey - that's my worry - that something is draining the battery. We're taking it to Earl Small's this weekend for an inspection and just to get some idea of what we need to do with it. After that it will be a matter of budget and what can we do ourselves. It's going to be primarily my husband's bike but I will have secondary access to it. Afterall, I have a scooter. But sometimes a girl just wants to big boy ride... ![]() |
