Roswell has made the Money Magazine list of Best Places to Live for the last two years, so I think that's probably a good place to start.

My job was going to transfer me to Alpharetta. I had a chance to check it out and i definitely was satisfied and from the sound of it u probably would be most comfortable in Alpharetta. Roswell is not a bad choice though, I also like Kennesaw but it would be a ridiculous commute.
God Bless. |

Still not too many homes for rent in those areas....hmmm. I'm sure we'll be able to find something. I should probably get in touch with a realty agent as you mentioned Bayarea.
That dance studio looks great. I'm just not sure if my daughter would be old enough to participate in thier "company" as she is here. I'll have to check with them....great place to start though. With everyone talking about traffic being such a huge issue though how long would it take me to get from Roswell or Alpharetta to: Shallowford Road Marietta, GA 30062? |

jenml,
I can't give advice about the areas you're thinking of moving to, but I can tell you that my husband and I relocated from a major Western city to Georgia and we LOVE the state. Now, while we technically live within the Atlanta metro area, we are very far south of where you'd be and in a rural area. Thing is, as I see it, the BEST thing about Georgia is getting out and about (and I mean OFF the interstate) and exploring the small towns, mountain areas, beaches, Piedmont areas, etc. If you can hop in your car on the weekends and really explore the state I think it could be GREAT for your kids as well as letting you see what this state is really about and meeting the people of Georgia. The geographic variety is amazing in this state and an hour or two in one direction really takes you to TOTALLY different places. So, I urge you and your family to take the time to explore. There are lots of areas with farms and the range of animals that are raised here is kind of surprising. Just by driving OFF major highways you kids can see cattle, goats, etc, llamas, alpacas, buffalo, miniature donkeys, miniature horses, miniature goats. Folks sure seem to go for miniatures here. There are LOTS of deer outside of metro areas. Your kinds might be on the young side but there is FDR's Little White House and Jimmy Carters depression era house. We really like driving in the mountains in Georgia because the mountains here are dotted with little towns. Again, your kids might be on the young side but there are lots of "you pick 'em" places for fruit such as blueberries and strawberries.. There are farmer's markets all over the place and if you enjoy gardening this is the land of camellias, gardenias, azaleas and all kinds of things that grow here. South of where you'd be living are big peach orchards and maps will show listings that I think are called, "Peach Blossom Trail". Up in Elijay are the apple orchards. One of the more impressive things we've seen are entire fields of sunflowers in bloom. In Helen (and maybe other places in the mountains) you and your kids can tube down the Chatahooche (sp), someplaces it seems to be only a foot or two deep. Though there has been a drought, so I don't know about water levels. Also up in that area are gem and mineral places where your kids can pan for gems, maybe when they're a bit older. And, if you're a wine drinker, there are vineyards and tasting rooms around the same area. LOTS of waterfalls. If you like to fish, this is the state for it. Hiking, boating, etc...it's all here and not far away. I could go on and on, but I think you get the idea, there is a LOT to do in Georgia. The tourism dept puts out a really nice free booklet about the state that they will send to you. If I locate mine, I'll post the phone number. As I said, we really love the state and hope you do as well. All the best, zebbie |
