Default Special education for young son..

I have 5 year old b/g twins and my son has been going through the Special Education program through our school district. He is severely speech delayed, as well as cognitive delays. We are possibly thinking of relocating for a new job into the Marietta, Cobb County area. I have heard good things about Kennesaw but have not specifically see anything regarding special education for children Elementary age. I need also, a good Elementary school for my daughter since she will be entering Kindergarten. We want to live in a quiet neighborhood with good schools.

Does anyone have any information regarding Special Education in these areas. Public or private.

Thank you.

My friend is a special ed consultant for Fulton County and travels among the schools in the North Fulton area. When I asked her this question, she recommended that you plan to either (1) call the schools you are interested in and set up a teleconference with the counselor and spec ed leads to discuss your specific needs or (2) set up an in-person visit when coming to look at the city. Our friends in Powder Springs (Cobb, near Kennesaw) had a 6 month wait to get their IEP for their 3rd grade daughter. They didn't know it would take so long and felt that half a year was wasted (and in a year where assessment testing is done!). For those 6 months, my friend spent a lot more time with her daughter to keep those grades up. So be sure to ask about IEP timeframes when making decisions. Good luck!

Default Special Education

Contact the Georgia Dept. of Education because I believe private school vouchers are available for special education students--for parents who are concerned that public schools are not meeting the special needs of their child.
