I live in Barnesville and to me, I love Barnesville. It has the near perfect location; a nice quiet community surrounded by larger cities. If you want to visit a larger city, Atlanta, Macon, Griffin, Thomaston etc. it's just up the road. Barnesville has been growing fast recently with businesses and since you mentioned Gordon College, Gordon is looking at growing from a community college to a four year state university within the next year, which is a really big thing. Being a Barnesville native, I am excited about all of the NEW coming to Barnesville. To summarize it all iin one sentence, it's about to happen here.

Well you say you're excited about all the new things coming to Barnesville yet you like the fact that its a quiet community. It may not be quiet much longer with all the new stuff coming.

I don't currently live in that area, but I use to work and live in Thomaston and I'm very familiar with Barnesville. Barnesville is a beautiful city and it's true that it's not too far from the hustle and bustle of Macon. I wouldn't consider it close to Atlanta though, unless you consider a 1 1/2 hour drive as close. Macon is much closer. You may also want to look at some of the newer communities near Thomaston on the north-end off 19/41 (near Pike County line). There isn't much coming to Thomaston (like Barnesville), if you are looking for the quiet life. Barnesville's close proximity to the interstate may bring changes that you are not interested in.
