You should not do modeling for free. You should develop headshots and a small portfolio by paying for a true commercial quality art photographer (beware of scammers). You need to keep that updated every 6 months to a year. Then you should join a reputable agency that represents child models (after doing a LOT of research) and let them find you work. If they don't, then move on and DON'T give them money.

And, finally Atlantagreg30127 you are way too funny!
Dr. Phil and Dr. Spock both thank you.

Hopefully the mother in question will, too.

Don't get the pictures first. You don't know what the agency is looking for, you don't know who the fashion photographers are or how much it SHOULD cost. Go and see the agent first with a few nice shots you took yourself and see if there is any interest. That way, you won't waste all that money on pictures no one cares about. If the agency is interested they will refer you to good fashion photographers and tell you just what kind of shots they want. The photographers who "do portfolios" for the most part are godawful. Besides, portfolios aren't DONE, they evolve through shooting with many different photographers over time. The agent dosen't expect a brand new wanna-be model to have a portfolio, she just needs to see how you photograph and judge from her experience if there is a market for your look (that means will anybody pay to use you) and make sure they don't already represent someone who looks just like you. If none of the agencies want you it's because they don't see "dollar bills" when they look at you. If they take you, they'll try to get you work because that is how they make money. if you don't work and their clients aren't keen to hire you the agency will admit it made a mistake and drop you.

Sometimes one must use humor to keep from pushing people down the stairs. Or.. to keep people from turning their children into demon seed child models...

Notice I said "small portfolio". Self shots is a big-time no-no in modeling, at least for adults. If you go to a top agency with self-shots, they will laugh. Believe me, I've talked to them all, including Ford and Elite. There are plenty of good art photographers that can do commercial photos. You buy the best ones.

The home shots are not for the portfolio. They are to show the agency how you photograph. If the agent thinks likes you she will send you to a good FASHION photographer to take pictures for your portfolio. I'm trying to keep people from being taken advantage of because when you are new you wouldn't know a good photographer or the right kind of photograph to take and you will waste your money. Anyone who is in interested need only call the agencies and ask if a portfolio is required.

Actually in the realm of high-end baby modeling agencies you absolutely use home done pictures because they want new ones all the time.

Send pics to Houghton, and they will not ask you for money and will take the pics by e-mail. Also J Pervis, if your kid has talent, will take him for a $20 eval fee and you don't pay anything after that and will not make you be exclusive for print.
