No way will another chain try to enter the Atlanta market...Harris Teeter tried and Publix and Kroger beat them down but good.
The grocery store I shop at now is the shell of an old H-T... |

I was at the Kroger at Sage Hill this week (another old Harris Teeter) and was very pleasantly surprised by it. I guess this is one of the times when those of us in North Decatur actually beat out true Decaturites. I like both the Publix and Kroger at Toco Hills and it's a very short drive to Whole Foods on Lavista, the Kroger at Sage Hill, and, of course, the DeKalb Farmer's Market. I've started going to Trader Joe's in Midtown for specialty items too.

The vacant Oakhurst strip mall...
I think an eastside Trader Joe' would be perfect there. No, better yet... The half-Kroger on Commerce should be changed to a Trader Joe's. The vacant strip mall in Oakhurst should become a Fresh Market or Whole Foods. *This scenario would allow the aforementioned stores to fill an eastside niche and need...and without competing with the various Krogers and Publixes that already surround the City of Decatur. *The Trader Joe's and Fresh Market/Whole Foods in the City of Decatur would also serve the surrounding neighborhoods/cities near Decatur. *A great solution...don't y'all think? :-) |

A Fresh Market/Whole Foods in Oakhurst instead of the northside of Decatur would compete less with the Whole Foods on LaVista and the Dekalb's Farmer's Market. Plus, it would give the "south" eastside (Kirkwood, East Lake, Oakhurst, Avondale, etc.) more options. A Trader Joe's near Decatur Square would be perfect and not really compete (directly) with anything. |

Yes, that's what I've heard for years. It doesn't appear that he cares very much about the neighborhood since having that giant empty space is a total blot on the Village. The Oakhurst Neighborhood Association should get involved.
