I know this has been asked in various ways but seems no exact answer.., so here goes: we are looking for a "reasonable" commute (less than 1 hour) to downtown (close to CNN), golf community ($500k), good schools. Relocating - any suggestions are appreciated!

Well, some these are going to be more than an hour on most weekdays, if you have a 9-5 commute. Never, ever underestimate Atlanta traffic!

Yes, the ones listed for Woodstock and Towne Lake will be longer than an hour commute to downtown.

Another piece of advice, if you will be working downtown (are you sure it is pure downtown and not midtown), it would be best to choose a golf community on the southside of the metro area. The southside offers better commutes to downtown.

Good Luck.

An update to my this old post of mine.. - I moved to Atlanta in July 2009 (best move ever). In deciding on areas and commutes I did the drive in rush hour traffic from the two locations that I narrowed the search down to - East Cobb and Bridgemill Golf Community in Cherokee county. The difference in commute times was less than 10 min from each (mainly due to slow surface street traffic in East Cobb). My ave (90% of the time) daily commute from Bridgemill to GA Tech area (mid town) is 50 min (can be 35min and can be 1.5 hours) - driving times are 7am and 6pm in general. So not a bad commute if you are coming from LA, NY or any other high traffic area. The Cherokee county area has some excellent schools and great recreational opportunities - certainly worth the commute hassle factor for me.
