Passing through for a night or so in a few weeks. Would like to stay near six-flags but have heard some areas near there aren't that safe or clean (lots of adult shops, that kind of thing, not that great for smaller children, etc?)
I am driving and I know I will be arriving via I20 so I'm thinking the Douglasville or Lithia Springs area but am open to options. Just want to be in a safe and decent area for my kids that is somewhat close to six-flags. Thanks - Mark |

Maybe others can recommend specific hotels, but the Douglasville area is going to be much better than the Six Flags area in regards to safety, cleanliness, etc.

I guess I should have mentioned I am also looking for a nice hotel recommendation in that area. Thanks - Mark

What's your price range? The Courtyard Marriott and other hotels in Cumberland (where 285 meets 75) are probably the nicest places to stay in the area, but they'll be more pricey than Douglasville, etc and will be a bit out of the way (you'll need to head down 285 a little bit).

Usually I stay at the hampton inn, hilton garden inn, courtyard by marriot type places so this should be within that range, will look at that area, thanks.

There's a Courtyard by Marriott and a Springhill Suites on Bob Arnold Rd in Lithia Springs. It's maybe an exit west of Six Flags...but it's a much nicer area than the surrounding area near the theme park.

The bad area around the theme park is really only within about a mile of it. You go much farther out and you start getting areas that are pretty nice with homes all the way up into the half millions or more not too far out (Cascade, Vinings, East Mableton, Smyrna, Powder Springs, etc). People wouldn't buy $500k and up homes in areas that are really dangerous so if your hotel is at least a mile out from the park, and not along Martin Luther King, Langford Parkway, Hollywood Rd or Bankhead Highway inside the perimeter, or not right near Six Flags outside the perimeter, I'd say you'll be fine.

Thornton Road also has some nice hotels (along with plenty to eat). It's also off of I-20 near Six Flags but not TOO close. You can also try Camp Creek Parkway (although congested it's an up and coming area with two brand new hotels and plenty to eat and do shopping wise.)

So know my better half is telling me we don't need to stay near six-flags since we probably won't have that much time to go there anyways. So we are no longer restricted to staying in the six-flags area. We are arriving via I20 from Brimingham and then the following day departing south on I75. Do not want to stay right in the city, like out of town, nice, safe, clean type places....So any new suggestions would be appreciated. I would prefer to stay somewhere closer to our route but can stray a little if necessary. Hotel cost is not as much of an issue as if safe, clean, nice areas - and what's the best place to do the 4th of July at? Thanks so much.
