Checker is on a distinguished road
Default Safety Lavista/Briarcliff/Clairmont Road

Hi all.. single female in her late twenties here... moving to Atlanta, or thinking about it.

I'm from Madison, Wis. so my experience with big city life is pretty minimal.

I am thinking of taking a job that from time to time will have a shift that ends at midnights on weekends.

How safe in the evenings is the area around LaVista Rd and Briarcliff Rd (both NE) (I am thinking of getting an apartment there.)

As well, how safe in the evenings and around midnight, particularly on the weekend, is the area around Clairmont Road near the Veterans' Hospital?

I'm confused about whether or not I should do this. I'd like to be able to consider informed opinions about safety before I make up my mind. Probably just small town-itis!

Thank you very much!

Well it isn't Mayberry, but for Atlanta it is very safe. The area you are talking about is for the most part a upper class safe area and has Emory nearby (so lots of young people). The worst part about the area is the traffic. I'm in my twenties and all of the women I know feel safe in this area.

I live in the neighborhood so if you need help with the apartment search let me know.

This a safe area indeed, and parts of it are very upscale and expensive, especially around Emory University. Just make sure you stay on the South side of Clairmont Rd, as the the other end is kinda shady. Will you be working at the VA hospital? My mom is a nurse there and works the 3:30pm to 12am shift, if you have any specific questions. She's never had any problems getting off at that hour.
