Apology accepted. Believe it or not, there are many people on this site (with children in the charter schools even) who still do not understand that charter schools are public schools.

Plus, I don't have time in my life to be "snarky" on the city-data forum...or any forum for that matter!

From experience women usually are more knowledgeable about schools and such for their kids, that is the case in my house anyway. My husband whilst he cares is not as knowledgeable as I am and I am new to this country and state.

But aries4118 is evidently a professional educator. (At least formerly; whether or not they are currently employed in education is unclear, in my reading). I've always vaguely thought of aries as male, but for no good reason, I realize - now that the subject has arisen. The zodiacal pseudonym might be more suggestive of a woman, but I wouldn't take that as definitive.

BTW, I favor the writing style that employs the third person plural pronouns for an individual of indeterminate or unknown gender. This is approved by at least some style books. It's better "he or she" (or should we prefer "she or he"?) or the ugly "s/he".

I am normally use all of the above but I guess when I posted I was in the middle of doing other things. OOps.

The "Other" Decatur is the southern part of the city, namely on the other side of the railroad tracks, which is primarily lower-income and overwhelmingly black. The crime rates are much higher in the part of Decatur, too.

So, the Central and Northern Parts of Decatur: Namely white and upper middle class. The southern "other" part of Decatur: Namely Black and poor to lower middle class.

I don't think you can consider Decatur proper upper middle class. Just middle class at best. And it's not overwhelmingly white. It is majority white but there is a good number of Blacks and immigrants in Central and North Decatur as well.
