DofThoreau is on a distinguished road
Default ADT & Previous Owners

Good morning Guys & Gals,

I have a somewhat silly question. The property we just purchased was a bank owned foreclosure so the info about the home was limited and the power was off until we had it inspected. Our inspector went in to do his job and the alarm was armed and eventually sounded. No one knows or knew the code so he had to disable it by cutting the power source to it.

My dillemma is...we are about to move in and if we connect the system it auto arms and we can't shut it off. It's an ADT system but I wasn't going with ADT for monitoring services. Can I still call ADT for them to provide a reset code or something? I'm not sure how that works. I also found out the previous owner through tax records and a google search provided me with their e-mail address (they are authors so their website has their contact info). I'd e-mail them and ask what the code was (of course providing a copy of the settlement statement or something to show we acutually own the home now) but I think it's REALLY tacky to e-mail them for information on a property they foreclosed on.

How does this work? Can I contact ADT to have the system reset but choose to have it monitored elsewhere?

Thanks!

*Sorry for the long post*

I'd talk to whoever you plan on having it monitored by- they should be able to get it to disarm. Even though the system may say "ADT" on it, it's likely just a generic system with a fancy label- any decent alarm company should be able to work with it.
