I am a 22 year old male recent college grad and I am going to be moving to Atlanta in July. the price range for my loft or condo is going to be anywhere up to $190k...I want a place where there are a lot of people and id like somewhere safe. I'm from NYC so id live in a place that has the same vibe almost.

You need Midtown. Buckhead doesn't have much "vibe" at all, though it's a nice place to live. But Midtown has enough funk to get you by.

You might also want to check out Little Five Points (note, the Little is key to differentiate it from Five Points).

RENT first. The condo market here is bad and probably won't be getting any better anytime soon. If you buy now, you risk not be able to sell it anytime soon. A condo/loft is not a sure thing in terms of return on investment right now.

I am not looking to move or sell anytime soon anyway...I just want to start in a new place and enjoy life...I am going to have a decent job and I am blessed to be able to buy a condo without a mortage so I dont think im going to rent.
I have looked at the Little Five Points area and it seems interesting. Ill do more research on that |

You should have your choice of new or historic condos. Buying a historic one will probably be cheaper. However, when it comes time to sell there are positives and negatives. A negative is that you'd be competeing against the newer condos. The positive is that the newer condos are more expensive and not everyone has a budget for one. Also, historic condos are a niche market. There are some people who won't ever buy a new condo. Historic condos also tend to be situated in better locations. The Laurea in Litte 5 Points is RIGHT THERE at the corner of Moreland and McLendon, right at Little 5 Plaza. you'd be right in the middle of the action. Newer condos can't give you that.
Same thing in Midtown...there are historic condos that surround Piedmont Park. You don't get the "ameneties" of newer condos, like a fitness center, pool, conceirge, etc. You get location. Just FYI. |

oh nice...yeah that seems like an avenue that I would go into right now...because id like to have a place with substance and meaning...not just another condo that popped up in the last year...even though their "amenities" are very convenient

It's very urban so you get a mix of people like me who are in their early 30s to early 40s with young families and a lot of young singles, too, of both genders. A good mix of gay and straight. And it's pretty liberal.
You're going to find more liberal type women in Midtown or Little 5 (by the way, these two areas are ridiculously close to each other). Just about anywhere near downtown/Midtown is going to be your more diverse crowd. In other words, the dating scene is good. If I'd moved here when I was in my early 20s I'd be having a blast. |
