If you are asking about the closest big box to the City of Decatur - that would be Wal-Mart. It is located at the old Avondale Mall at the corner of Memorial and South Columbia.

Edgewood also has a target, although it can get crowded and sometimes things are slim pickings, so I also go over to the one on N. Druid Hills. In my 3 years in Decatur, never been to a Walmart but I know there are a few. I pretty much avoid the malls at North Dekalb and Northlake, but there just opened a Kohl's at Northlake so might have to go check that out. In the Northlake area there is a Best Buy and a Target. A little further away is Atlantic Station - Target, Ikea, a big dept store and a decent movie theater.
Oh the retail options that are Atlanta!! |

I live in North Decatur and I go to the Target on North Druid Hills or the one at Northlake. I tend to shop online most of the time, so I rarely go to the mall anymore. North DeKalb has become run-down. They've been talking about redeveloping it for years and it would be a huge asset to the area if that would happen, but as far as I'm aware it's not in the works. The Northlake area has lots of options including the Mall and the surrounding shopping centers. Lenox/Phipps is pretty convenient as well.
I haven't been to the Avondale Walmart yet. It's new. Yes, that location is currently "sketchy" but hopefully the Walmart will serve as a stimulus to improve the area. The mall went downhill for a long time before being abandoned several years ago. Now that business is back in the area it is hopeful that the whole area will be revitalized. |

There is also a Sam's Club on Clairmont near I-85.

lol, I had no clue that Wal-Mart had opened in Decatur. For some reason I still thought the neighbors were fighting it. That's closer than Tucker for me on the rare time I want to go to one.
The Kohl's at Northlake is okay. For some reason it seems the one near Gwinnett Mall and out in Dacula are bigger and better. Maybe it's just that the two stories make it seem smaller. I'd say it definitely CAN be worth the bother. The Dacula store had a sale on sweaters a couple of months ago and they were all under $4.00. I picked up enough to last a decade! (it gets cold at my job). We like to go to the stores around Northlake Mall. Target, Tuesday Morning... heck, plenty of stuff over there. |

Wasn't my cup of tea...maybe you'll feel otherwise.
I dunno...I'm finding that dept stores like Dillards have such great sales (and merchandise), why bother with an off price store like Kohl's that has ho-hum stuff IMO? |
