I scoured the town for months for a 'deal' on a dining room set, bedroom chest, coffee table at different times. Every time, my search would lead me back to the furniture dept. at Macy's Perimeter.
I think they have a terrific sales rep there in Linda Neely (hope she's still there...she was last fall, I know).

We were just looking for some furniture and I thought the prices at Macy's were good as well. We didn't buy anything there because we were just looking for a chest of drawers for my son's room, but I've got my eye on a coffee table and sectional that I would like to have as soon as our finances are better.

Have you tried craigslist?
We have gotten a few nice things off there we moved down here last september from Maine. And we only brought the bare essentials with us we had to buy everything new, I also got some things at Rooms to Go and the pottery barn outlet store at the North Georgia outlets in dawsonville.

For the highest end stuff: hire a designer and go to ADAC (the trade only Atlanta Design Center). Atlanta also has amazing antique stores - Miami Circle, Bennett Street, the Galleries at Peachtree Hills are some locations with lots of antique stores. There are also some great antique/vintage furniture places that are more reasonable: there is one in Sandy Springs on Roswell Rd (about 2 or 3 miles outside the perimeter), and there is also a good antique place with lots of dealers on 14th Street.
For middle/higher end, I like Matthews Furniture Gallery (West Paces Ferry at 75) and Beverly Hall (Piedmont Rd). They carry lots of brands, and generally offer a great discount off retail.
The Macy's at the Perimeter (as mentioned by another poster) has a lot of selection.
There are many good boutique furniture places too - Bungalow Classic (Howell Mill), Plantation Shop (Roswell), Mrs. Howard/Max & Co. (Galleries at Peachtree Hills), Pieces (Roswell Rd - restored vintage) come to mind. There are some great decor/ furniture boutiques in the VA-Highland area too...Armour and Company, Provinance. Midtown and downtown have some amazing contemporary furniture boutiques, such as Yes!, Space, DRTC.
For more reasonable furniture, Atlanta has all of the usual chain places, including Ikea.
There are a lot of furniture places off 85 in Norcross, but I am not too familiar with them.
