To make you feel better, a first time HOV offense in CA is five times as expensive as your $75 ticket. I'd just pay it and move on.

Yeah definitely don't fight it. I had a friend fight one and actually had it reduced. However, there are court fees that made the ticket higher even with the reduction. 0_o

Is the HOV lane really that much faster during rush hour?

It varies, but generally yes in my experience.

On I-85, absolutely. It CAN make a huge difference.

I really cant understand how a person gets a ticket for one of the most obvious of laws....there is no excuse for getting caught in the HOV lane

No, those were the days when the HOV lanes were brand new, and they were giving people a break to get used to the concept.

HOV lane violations have NOTHING to do with the City of Atlanta. Those are State DOT officers that ticket you for it.

I got my one and only HOV ticket when the HOV lanes were new. A cop was waiting at the end of the Lindberg HOV off ramp. In those days, the HOV on I-20 was only in effect during peak travel times, whereas the HOV on I-85 was in effect 24-7. At the time, I regularly traveled on I-20, and very rarely drove on I-85. I thought the rules were the same for for both highways. I explained that to the judge, but I still had to pay the fine.

While I was sitting in my car for 15 minutes waiting for the cop to process my ticket, I watched at least 50 single occupant vehicles use the HOV off ramp and not get stopped.
