Default Midtown Reality

Hi everyone!

I've been researching Atlanta and it seems like Midtown would be a great place for me to move to. But the truth is that I always think the grass is greener on the other side :-) I was wondering if you could give me the reality of Midtown. This is my view of it:

-Great Urban place to live (I love the lofts)
-Great shopping and bars close by
-Piedmont Park seems wonderful
-Good place for singles to meet
-A lot of culture and history
-Many things to do
-There's crime but not so bad if you have common sense. Or that I would have to worry about walking by myself
-I could find an accountant job making between $50-55 a year (in Midtown or near, I don't want to deal the traffic commute)
-I could find a 1 br loft for $1000-1300 in a good area

A little about me:
-27, white, female, single
-BS in Accounting and have my CPA
-Raised in Vegas, currently living near Yosemite National Park in California

So is this reality?

Thank you so much for your opinions!

With a CPA degree you should be able to make more $$ than that. I'm not crazy about the Midtown area only because I have different priorities (like children) but for singles I guess it is cool. Right now I live in the Bay Area until July.

There are big 4's and financial instutions in downtown area where you can find a job at. Commuting won't be a problem.

I think that Midtown is a wonderful place for someone young. I lived there when I was young I still own a condo there and it always stays rented out (it overlooks Piedmont Park). Whenever I got home, I use to just park my car and hit the street running (literally). If I started a jog just before nightfall, I would start in Piedmont Park and then by the time it was become darker - I would be on the streets. My thought was that if anyone was trying to mug me for my condo key (as that was the only thing that I carried) that there would be plenty of witnesses

There is something magical to me running the streets of Midtown with all the lights from the skyscrapers lighting up the area. Yes - there are plenty of restaurants, bars, entertainment and of course, Piedmont Park. Here are two websites that I think that you would like exploring:

Midtown Alliance
AroundMidtown.com

So to answer your question, yes I think that it is a wonderful place to live in the city.

The only negative I ever heard about living in Midtown was from friends that lived on 9th St (which I thought would be a dream). Being only 1 block from the park, it was hell during festivals...cars blocking your driveway, cars in your driveway, crowds, noise, and of course the occasional drunk relieving himself on your impatiens.
One of my friends had a festival-goer who parked on his small lawn (there was nothing on the street, apparently). When he yelled a threat out the window, the parker flipped him off and said "You'll never get a tow here in time!." Too true; the tow trucks were so busy during the festivals that it was hard finding one that would even respond.
Minor point, maybe...but that same friend now lives in Roswell, feeling that it's a safe enough distance from Piedmont Park.
