I have a 13 y.o. son that loves to fish. I live in the Roswell/Alpharetta/Jones Creek area.. Where's the best and closest place to land fish in this area? Also what about buying bait? He's from SSI and only here for the summer. Thank you for your time and info in advance.

Well Lake Lanier sucks so don't bother with the drive. I think anywhere in Georgia it sucks cause people keep everything they catch even when it's the size of a 10 year old kids hand.

Rent or Buy a tube and float the hooch down from the damn. Make sure you get the release schedule as to not be surprised by rising water. Some companies operate on the river.
Small spinner rod, with 4 or 6lb line, Salmon Eggs, Corn, Worms, Rooster Tail, etc will all catch trout here. If you don't want to float it, you can wade alot of it. |

Don't count out a day trip up 400 to Helen area or 575/515 up to Ellijay/Blue Ridge...
I've fished these for years as they are stocked where the Hooch isn't. Try Rock Creek, they have a hatchery there that you can walk thru on weekends. We're talking 20lb trout that you can look at. Make sure you get a license with a trout stamp from Walmart or your local sporting goods store. |
