What are the toughest areas in Atlanta? Where are some of the roughest public housing projects?

Someone like 'Plessthanpointohfive' could well explain the gentrification of the inner city neighborhoods.

The housing projects are gradually being torn down and alternative housing provided for some--not enough.

This thread may become lengthy---FWIW.

Just go down around the state Capitol and inquire. You might want to lock and load.

Alas.. The ghetto scene in the City-proper of Atlanta has changed dramaticlly in the past few years (really since about the Olympics were held here). There used to be ghettos in the city to suit any taste.. Techwood Homes, Perry Homes, Capitol Homes, you name it - Atlanta could provide you a ghetto!

Now, things are not that simple - Techwood Homes is a decent-looking community of apartments and condos near all the new tourist attractions like the Aquarium, World of Coke, Centenial Park, etc. etc. Perry Homes has been flattened and ther are some new things going up there - same with Capitol Homes. In fact, in todays paper (AJC) it just said that the Federal approval was reached for Bowen Homes to be demolished. Less ghetto in the city center itself which is probably heling all the new stuff coming in and making downtown a better area.

So where's it all going? Look South and East generally (OTP). Big, big changes in those areas over the past 10 years as well - and not all good - especially when it comes to crime stats.

My vote for the bedt ghetto area of Atlanta now goes to (drum roll please!) - Clayton County

Just watch the 11 PM news and see where all the shootings, killings and other crime are happening - that'll give you a good idea.
