Hi all,

I'm looking for an apartment near Emory these days and found one at the intersection of Lawrenceville hwy and Valley Brook rd (.5 miles from north dekalb mall). I'll appreciate if anyone could comment on how safe that area is for living.

This may be Clarkston or DeKalb County.

The Clarkston police chief is 'Cleaning Up the Crime' in a major way and plans to run for DeKalb Police Chief. Certainly sounds dedicated to his job.

It also could be DeKalb County? unincorporated.

DeKalb County Police Department (http://www.dekalbpolice.com/index_home.html - broken link)

It's 'pretty safe' and improving. Nice little neighborhoods.

Lovin Decatur probably knows more about this area.

I know the apt complex, but am not sure about it...the area is OK, but around there that can be so and the complex can still be trouble...especially if it's older (which in this case, it is).
Personally, I would move up N Druid Hills Rd away from that intersection and towards Clairmont...you'll see some good complexes along that route.

When we first moved to Atlanta we lived in Arbor Hills apartments. There were a lot of Emory students living there. They have an olympic size pool and racquetball courts. At the time they were larger and cheaper than Post Apartments. They are located on North Druid Hills Rd near shops and restaurants. Don't know how they are today other than they still are in a great location.

Hate to tell ya, but they're a Section 8 extravaganza now...a friend of mine sold a house that backed up to them because of the nocturnal cacophany (gunshots included) that have come out of there for the last 3 years

The Park on Briarcliff has huge 70's style apts--1 BDR starting around $650--on MARTA and close to the main campus of Emory. It is managed by Gables and it is a very diverse, safe environment. That would be my choice out of what I have seen.

Lots of smaller houses 50's/60's to rent also. A great duplex was available somewhere near Chantilly Rd/Executive Park last week. I think it is probably rented 2 guys were on their cell phone as I walked by. It would have been a good place to live. You just have to walk or drive through the area and see what is available.

If you want to pay 'More'--all along Briarcliff and Sheridan are expensive new apartment complexes.

They are nice. I walk my dog through them. Lots of dogs and the people are nice, at least the dog owners.

I don't know what goes on in the complex but I can assure DeKalb PD patrols this area very competently.

The Tin Roof, on the other side of the Target/Briarcliff Rd has live music and Loehman's Plaza is across N. Druid Hills--haven't noticed any 'problems' myself. DeKalb PD officers are all over the place since N. Druid Hills/Briarcliff Rd is such a busy intersection and cough 'Someone' brought this to their attention on several occasions. <evil grin>

That's too bad. It was always quiet when we lived there. We were surprised because we thought students might be loud but they were mostly grad students. It was a fun place to live with the tennis courts and rain sounded so nice on the roof.

Default Dekalb County

The area is high crime. If your going to move to Metro Atlanta, stay in the North suburbs, or should I say communities.
