Smile Need Someone to Play With My Son!!!

My little guy is going stir-crazy and frankly, so am I. Trying to find some activities for him. I joined a couple of moms groups, but most of the activities seem to be geared towards younger kids. My little guy is four years old, 45 inches tall, and a bit, shall we say, rambunctious? Sweet as he can be, but he needs other kids to roughhouse with. Storytime at the library isn't going to cut it. We seem to have missed all the summer camps, they all seem to cost an arm and a leg anyway. Where are the other four year boys in 30360 and 30338? Help!

I'm looking for other kids he can kick the soccer ball with and run around with until they both drop with exhaustion. Need something fairly close by. The only moms groups I've found so far are more than 30 minutes away. Not a good plan especially with gas so expensive. Any ideas?

Anyone interested in getting together for a playdate? We have big screened in back porch and a large back yard. Footballs, soccer balls. I'll make snacks of course. Just help me find somebody for this kid to play with!!!

Roslyn - best of luck with your quest. I have an only child and our family moved twice in a row (some years apart) at the beginning of summer before I figured out this was lousy timing for my daughter. Not, of course, that one necessarily has a choice of when to move.

Anyway, what I found was that the other kids in the new location all tend to be invisible in summer - they're at day camps, grandma's house, on vacations, etc. When school starts in the fall you discover the neighborhood has more kids than it appeared in summer, and if your kid is in the local school (your son may be a bit young for this, unfortunately) they'll find it much easier to make friends with their new schoolmates.

Good luck! You're obviously trying to do all the right things!

I was afraid of that. I was seriously starting to wonder if all the children had been taken away by the 'pod people.' Even when we go to the park it's usually younger children, some still in strollers.

I think we're going to try a bigger park. We are going to a kids swim with a moms group next week. At least one of them has a four year old, so I'm hopeful something will come of it.

Hey, Roslyn

Have you been to Brook Run Park yet?

You might have to try it at different times (don't go in the heat of the day) but there is often a crowd there. Try early evening on days when the heat isn't blistering.

Did you try the pool at Murphey Candler yet?

We haven't gone to Brook Run yet. Might try that tomorrow. Hadn't thought to go in the evening. Usually we try to get out around 8:30 or 9.

Love the pool at Murphey Candler. We've been a couple of times. We have a mom's meetup at another pool next week. My husband's going to come home early and take him to play tennis tomorrow evening.

Brook Run when the weather is nice is really a bustling place... lots of families and kids.

Be careful meeting people online, especially inviting them to your house after you've already advertised your son down to specifics.

You're right AutumnRose. Normally I'm paranoid as hell, I should know better.
