Downtown College park is ok, but I would stay away from Old National Highway and especially the Clayton County park of College Park (Riverdale Road)!!!

There are 3 College Parks.
1. Historic College Park Welcome to HCPNA Home Page!
2. City of College Park City of College Park
3. Unincorporated College Park (Areas in S. Fulton & Clayton County that are in fact not College Park, but everyone calls them College Park.)
Historic College Park is within the City of College Park. The ambiguous areas surrounding the City of College Park are the Greater College Park area. The City of College Park isn't actually that big (30337). Same thing happens all the time with Decatur.
A lot of people like it there, and pay a premium to live in Historic College Park near Woodward (not uncommon for homes to sell for 300k-500k and up). Also, look at crime data before taking anyones word on this site. Sometimes even well meaning individuals don't have all of the facts.

Thanks for the links. I was impressed with the pics, of historic College Park. Very nice. Next month when I go, I will check it out. It's safe to say it's expensive to live in that area.

Thank you everyone
For the information. I was looking at the cheap houses in 30349, I have a home I own in Michigan, but I am looking to buy also in Georgia. I would live in GA for the school year, use my home in Michigan as a vacation home. I wll definatly be making several trips before I decide on an area.

In my opinion, it's so so...Nothing impressive. Old National. .I see shopping plazas, and fast food chains, and you'll see young hookers walking around. Then there's World Changers Ministry (Creflo Dollar's church), correct me if I'm wrong with the name. I've seen worse. If you dont mind one group (black people), many not educated in my opinion from what I've encountered, can deal with mediocrity, you may not mind College Park. Otherwise, if you aspire to do better for yourself and family and are looking for a better environment, College Park may not be for you (Old National area). I have three cousins that live there. I dont know why they chose CP over other places. They are intelligent, professionals (2 out of 3), and can live elsewhere, but chose it over many places. They like it there. People there, from my experience, (aside from some Walmart cashiers) are nice. ( They may not be CP residents either, but who knows?)
I wouldn't call it a ghetto, but the residents and officials can do better keeping it clean and not so run down. ( Sidebar: Why do people think everywhere black people live as a group, Affluent or not, is a ghetto?)..People need to pull out their dictionaries to look for the real definition of ghetto.

Sherette, are you asking about Riverdale Road area (30349) or Old National Highway. I would definately stay clear of Riverdale Road. Worst part of Clayton County which is about to loose its school accredidation and a good bit of gang activity.

I was asking about Riverdale Rd. The apt. complex I will be moving to is right off of it. I chose CP b/c I recently accepted a position with a Clayton Co. school and didn't want too far of a commute. Now that things are down to the wire, I can't really change my plans. Is it so horrible that I might not be able to last a year? The original plan was to stay South for a year, then reapply for Gwinnett Co. schools.

No, not at all. The loss of accreditation is likely, but you should be fine. Riverdale is OK, nothing great. Areas around Riverdale Road look a little blighted, but it is not that bad. Shopping should be convenient for you. Hopefully you will like Clayton County schools and stay or apply elsewhere as well after you see how it is. The biggest complaint I have found from parents with kids in the Clayton County public schools is many of the teachers now are apparently inexperienced, as many veteran teachers have left in large numbers. It is hard to say what it will be for you in your case for your new job. Good luck with your move.
