I wanted to thank everyone that has responded. I'll be sure to tell them about the subdivision near Newnan.

I don't think they NEED to live on the Southside at all. I told them about some great subdivision in Smyrna, and some in DeKalb county but many of them don't have water features on the property except for a swimming pool. From my own research, there are a lot of lakes, streams, and creeks on the West/South side of Atlanta so that's where I've been looking.

I have found a few builders that have two masters or will at least have a suite on both the first and second floor. The problem has been that they don't build anywhere near the Atlanta metro area.

If this were me, I'd buy the land (am actually shopping for some for the dream home I hope to build soon.) I realize that this would be hard for them since they are selling their home in DC and moving down here and may not be able to swing two mortgages since they are selling that home and using the equity to buy their new home.

beneatl - there are 4 realtor in my family, two in the Atlanta area so you might wonder why I'm doing this. I want my in-laws to have the best and the more eyes the better. Not every agent knows every neighborhood and I knew that by asking the people on here that have always been nice to share what they really felt that I'd get options beyond what any other website or agent could give me.

For those of you that have shared, I truly appreciate it and when my in-laws move into wherever they end up I'll be sure to send an update.

LoveinDecatur - I knew what I was getting into the moment I said... "I'll look into it." It took my wife and I four months to find the home that we live and we spend one of those four months deciding on which floorplan/upgrades we wanted. I've done most of the heavy lifting since I was able to find out what they wanted. Now I can relax a little and help some more if I have to.

You can get land in Fayetteville I know. Friends of ours live there on about 1.25 acres.

There is a beautiful house around the corner from me on the golf course that has a master suite on one side of the house and a guest room with bath on the other side (main floor ). Then there are more bedrooms and baths downstairs. In the price range mentioned. The neighborhood is Summergrove. If you want to know more, email me. I am not a realtor and I have no interest in the house. As a matter of fact, I am unfortunately moving because my husband has taken a job in another city. I have a house for sale but it does not meet your requirements. Summergrove is a very nice area and in particular the area of the neighborhood that we are located in.

Thank you Mawoods!

That makes the second vote for Summergrove. I'll be sure to pass this along to my in-laws.

I was having some issue pulling up their floorplans, but there appear to be a whole lot of chefs (builders) in the kitchen. Would you mind telling me which builder built your home? How do you feel about the build quality? Would you recommend them?

I know that I could send you a PM, but this seems like good information for the rest of the community to have as well.

Thanks again,
Lou

The builder of the particular house that I mentioned is Chadwick Builders. They seem to have a pretty good reputation. As in all developements there are some good and not so good builders. It is in the ESTATES section which is pretty much off the beaten track and very quiet. IT is on the golf course and within walking distance of the lake. There are some houses with both but are a little more expensive. If you do end up looking in Summergrove, let me know and I will give you the real deal info. Since we are trying to sell our house (around the corner from the mentioned house), I am aware of what houses are really selling for through our agent. It is really a buyer's market and you can get some deals. A house 3 doors down was originally 439,000 and sold for 375. The houses on the golf course and lake are higher but you can get some deals right now.The house I told you about also has 3 car garage, beautiful screen porch and deck and hardwood floors that were taken out of an old mill in south Georgia. The second/basement level has 3 more bedrooms and baths along with a den/media room and kitchen in addition to a huge storage area. GEEE , I am not really trying to sell you the house!! As I said, I have no stake in it! But I think your parents would find the area friendly and there are a good number of empty nesters in this section that moved here specifically to be near children. There is also as I think a ranch type house (smaller ) on the golf course that is next to a good friend. The whole street is nothing but empty nesters. That house is smaller but much less expensive and has 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths on the main floor along with a finished upstairs bonus room with a full bath. All for less than 380 and I bet you could get it for less.

WELL, enough about that. I just wish someone would buy my house!!!! We have a great builder and it is less than 2 years old. We are moving out of state as my husband is working elsewhere after being here only for 18 months !
We will never see what we put into it thinking we were here for the long haul.
Good luck and if you need info about the developement, just let me know.

Well, I can only imagine that with so many builders and new homes going up that a resale could be more difficult. I wish you all the best with that.

mof29212 - LaGrange sounds interesting with the Kia plant and everything but I think that may be too far, especially if my step-dad ends up working downtown. Oh, and if your last name is Ferguson - we just might be related!

If there are any subdivision in Alpharetta or Marietta, I'd love to know which ones they are. My wife and I are taking a drive to Newnan tomorrow, by way of Fayetteville, so hopefully we see some things.

Well - it turns out that my in laws won't need a place with two masters anymore. This makes their choices a whole lot wider.

Problem solved for now. Thanks to all.

I assumed they are retired, but you say your father-in-law will be working? In that case, I'd definitely take the commute into consideration. I'd also put in a vote for places near a MARTA station, especially if he will be working downtown. There are a lot of properties in Dekalb county with creeks/streams on the property, although that may not be enough water for them.
