Hey All- I am very interested to know the thoughts and opinions of Atlanta residents regarding the possible Delta/USAir "hostile takeover". From this side (I live in Phoenix), locals really like USAir's CEO Doug Parker and I think that most folks here believe in his ability but wonder where headquarters would end up. I assume that Atlantans aren't generally happy about the whole thing?? By the way, where are the Delta headquarters? At or near the airport?

Delta's HQs is located on the north side of the airport. I'm kind of opposed to the merger because less carriers usually means higher prices for consumers (not something I like very much) but if the HQ ends up in Atl then I wouldn't mind it as much. Of course I really don't want the merger to happen if we don't get the HQ.

Just my two cents.

I worked for NWA for ten years, and there are STILL things happening there as the result of the Northwest/Republic merger back in 1986 or whenever it happened. And those were much smaller airlines.

I don't think a Delta/USAir merger is a good idea. More of a logistical nightmare. :-(

There are a lot of things to resolve when you merge airlines. Pilots, flight dispatchers, flight attendants, and other employee groups have their own seniority lists and bidding procedures that have to be merged (can you say internal union rivalries? I bet you can...), the two airlines probably have somewhat different procedures operationally (I worked on a flight ops-related computer application that NWA obtained from United in 1987, and there were some HUGE and often surprising differences in the way the airline did things, and not just from a technical perspective), and the two airlines fleets of aircraft will have to be combined in some manner.

It can be a real mess.
