Default Commute from Buford/Cumming/Sugar Hill to Alpharetta

We plan on relocating from Charlotte, NC to Atlanta. My job is located in Alpharetta. How is the commute from Buford to Alpharetta?

Koz- It can vary quite a bit depending on where specifically you are coming from, the time you are driving in and the time of year. Why this part of town? Did you buy on Lanier? I know a girl who lives in Cumming and it takes her at least an hour every day but she leaves right in the middle of rush hour.

Really...an hour??? Wow. We used to live in Cumming and both my husband and I commuted down to Alpharetta and it was about a 20-30 minute drive depending on the congestion of 400. We lived close to 400 too.

I would recommend maybe...south forsyth area...where you could take 141 into Alpharetta, that is if you are going to the windward area. If you are working on the other side Alpharetta (like the main street side)...you could look at cherokee county adjacent to fulton county.

We live in Cumming (zip 30028) north of Highway 20 and also work in Alpharetta (McFarland & GA 400). The commute for us is no more than 25 minutes....you can go to 400 if you leave early enough, but the traffic is a bit slow. We stick to the side streets and we do the 17 miles (+ or -) drive in 25 minutes.

GA400 is the highway that runs through Alpharetta to Cumming, then Buford is east of there. 400 can be a beast, but not always. There are some auxilliary roads that might work for you as well. Sugar Hill is closer to Alpharetta than Buford and Cumming is closest of all. Both cities (Cumming in Forsyth County) and Buford/Sugar Hill (in Gwinnett County) have lower taxes than Alpharetta (Fulton County) and lower housing costs. I am a local realtor and will be glad to help you.

Commute time would also depend on where your office is in Alpharetta i.e West or East of 400. Any tax savings living in Forsyth vs Fulton may be lost with the price of gas.
Have you looked in Alpharetta? We have a house we are renting or selling if interested pm me.

My wife commutes from Suwanee to downtown Alpharetta every day, and it takes her about 45 to 60 minutes. The commute from Buford shouldn't be quite that long. Her drive will get much better when they finish widening McGinnis Ferry.

When you are traveling during rush hour on two lane roads you can't go by map mileage. I live in Alpharetta and Suwanee is a half hour away in non rush hour so 40-50 in rush hours seems about right.

It's amazing that so many people move to the northern suburbs considering all the traffic.
