West Lake (Atlanta, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody: apartment, rent , townhome)

It has been a while looking for a place but I am being very careful because I have had bad luck in finding an apartment in Atlanta. I saw a townhome renovated in West Lake Ave area yesterday. It is actually on West Lake Ct. near the Marta Station right off MLK and I-20. Another apartment was Windridge in Sandy/Springs Dunwoody. It is a nice area off 400 but I heard someone say once about six months ago they heard a gunshot there. I also checked on a townhome on Drennon Avenue near East-West conn in Austell but the resident I spoke with there says they are having issues with drug dealers and break-ins. Is anyone here familiar with the westlake area. For those not familiar with me I also have a son in elementary school but will be starting middle school soon and I don't want him surrounded by negative influences. Price is the issue for me b/c I am looking to pay no more than 650 for rent but it seems like 2 bedrooms for this price are in iffy areas.

I don't think the West Lake area is for you. I would suggest the Sandy Springs / Dunwoody location you mentioned in your post. You'll hear less gunshots and it's close to the North Springs Marta Station if that is needed.
