Our family and a visiting guest from France have tickets to an Atlanta Braves baseball game this Friday night (our first time).

We'd like to avoid car jams and traffic both pre and post game and are considering taking MARTA to Turner Field.

We'd be coming from Decatur and taking the east line to GA State University exit and then walking down Capitol (less than a mile).

Is this a good (safe) idea at night?

Any idea where we can park for the MARTA in Decatur? (hopefully, parking won't close as we'll be staying at Turner Field afterwards for fireworks).

Or is driving and parking at Turner Field the more sensible option?

It is a brilliant idea to take MARTA but you can take a shuttle bus from the Five Points station...

Absolutely without a doubt the best way to go especially on a Friday. You will get off at 5 points and look for the signs to the braves shuttle. I believe you HAVE to walk through underground to get to the buses now. Used to be you could access them on Forsyth street.

Just ask one of the workers there if you get confused.

I second the Braves shuttle. It'll drop you off at the gate at Turner Field. It'll be a little packed on the way out of the game but it's still better than driving.

Just don't get freaked out if the shuttle is PACKED to the gills. It does sometimes happen. There is a good chance of rain now on Friday, so take whatever you think you need for that.

There is a surface parking lot 100 feet from the Decatur Marta station on Church Street.

Another vote for MARTA to Little Five Points Braves shuttle. You do have to walk through the Undergraound (towards the exit at Johnny Rockets), but it's a fun touristy thing to do. There is usually a line of buses waiting. I would get there around 5:30-5:45 -- that would give you plenty of time and avoid the rush of people. There are buses waiting after the game too, and though there's always tons of people, I think it's pretty efficient adn they load up the buses quickly.

There's free parking at the East Lake MARTA, which is one stop west of Decatur (and one stop closer to Little Five Points).

Have fun!

NOT LITTLE FIVE POINTS...just Five Points.

Sorry for the obnoxious bold upper case writing, but this mistake is a constant source of confusion for people. Little Five Points and Five Points are not the same place.

To go to the Braves game, you need to go to Five Points station (to get the shuttle) or Georgia State station if you wish to walk.

Thanks for the MARTA link and for all the helpful directions!

Taking MARTA will be another adventure for our teen visitor from France.

For some reason, he's looking forward to having a hotdog at the Braves game.
