Commute time from Marietta to Emory or close by (Atlanta: new house, neighborhood)

Hi all
Would like a good approx commute time from marietta zips 30060/30064 or around marietta square to Emory hospital or as close as possible. The morning depart from marietta would be at between 6A & 7A and leaving emory between 4P & 6P.
Just tryin to figure out if the affordability of a newer home, good schools etc...if those are worth the commute.
And last question how about off peak times or weekend jaunts into the city..travel time change much?

I'd say 45 minutes to an hour, especially with the closed off exits on the Connector adding more problems to the mix.

That commute will be a lot worse going home than coming in really. But both ways are not too good. Why Marietta? Why don't you look into Dekalb or nearby Gwinnett County for homes?

I think if you figure in the gas and the driving time, you'd do better to look near
Emory. Not to mention the bills for tranquilizers and psychiatric help.

I wouldn't do it..no way. As for off-peak times, those windows are getting shorter and shorter during the week, and weekends usually mean construction tie-ups. Many people in Atlanta are starting to see the folly of being lured by that new, big home in the exurbs only to end up confined to their car for hours on end.

That is a terrible commute. Don't do it. There are very good residential communities all around Emory, in every price range (billionaire to welfare mother and everything in between).

I'd look at Decatur and Avondale Estates if I were moving there and had a family. (In Decatur, be careful about the specific neighborhood.) You can also find comparatively decent schools, realizing that "decent schools" in the Atlanta area is a relative term. If you have a spouse who will have a job in North Cobb, you might look at Dunwoody as a compromise area.

I actually have experience with this commute. I am in a temporary situation (job-hunting in Cobb County while employed) and commute from 30064, 1 mile south of the square to the VA hospital on Clairmont. I have been commuting this route since January, M-F.

When I leave at 6:50 a, I arrive at the VA at about 7:40 a. The closed 10th St exit has no effect because it is south of the 75/85 interchange and I drive 75S to 85N to the Clairmont exit.

The way home is more troublesome. I take the same way, and leave between 5 pm and 7 pm. No matter what I leave within those parameters, I get stuck in a bumper-to-bumper jam near the 75/85 interchange between Monroe Dr and the 75N exit- 2 miles long, lasts between 5-15 minutes. Door-to-door: 1 hour and up.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like Marietta is not for us. My husband will be working at Emory and we want to live relatively close, safe, not horrible commute (30min ok), great school area to live. I appreciate the advice. What are you thoughts of living in Dunwoody or Tucker (as close to the perimerter as possible)....looks to be 20-30min drive to emory hosp??

If an afforable house that is fairly large is what you are after, then Tucker might be your best bet. Your commute would be around 20 minutes to Emory. Not a lot of newer houses in Tucker, but an affordable new house close to Emory would be difficult to find- depending, of course, on your idea of affordable.
