Default Need some help

Just moved to Atlanta on Friday and need some advice on a few things.

1) Looking for a reliable mechanic knowledgable about Jeeps. I used a guy back home in New York who used to work for a Jeep dealership and knew my car inside and out... also quite a bit cheaper than going to the dealer. Does anyboday know of someone? My air conditioner isn't working and need to get it taken care of asap!!!

2) Car insurance: are there brokers in Atlanta? My internet is limited and it's tough to weed through all the companies out there without it.

I know I have a ton of other questions but can't remembet them... will add them when I get back online.

Yeah going to the dealership to get any kind of repair done is a joke with the prices they quote you. I would suggest Midas, Firestone or Sears auto repair shop, if you have a Yellowbook, look in phone directory for all auto repair shops that deal with A/C repair. Get some price quotes and ask to speak with their mechanic that handles a/c repair (providing their not extremely busy to come to phone) and ask him some questions to see how aknowledgable they are. Good luck.

Also look at Geico, their premiums are good, I've had them in the past for my auto insurance.

We have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee and after trying two dealerships (expensive) and a couple other places we weren't happy with, finally found a Goodyear right near our home where the people seem very capable and the prices are more reasonable. I think auto repair places are pretty individual, though. Maybe you could post where you're living and get some recommendations in your area?

About A/C problems specifically, my sister and husband just recently had a problem with the A/C not working in their Honda Odyssey, and the guy who has done all their mechanical work for years told them he couldn't handle A/C, they'd have to take it somewhere equipped for that. They ended up getting the A/C fixed at Sears. This was in Canada, btw, not Atlanta, but the principle of needing to find a repair place equipped to do A/C work probably applies here too.

Thanks! I'm in East Atlanta but do not mind traveling a bit if need be. I'm a teacher and have the next week and a half off until school starts.

Welcome! We take both our cars to a great place in Snellville (up 78 from Decatur). I'm not sure I can post it here, so send a Direct Message if interested. I've taught the owners kids and they are a great family. He is very honest and capable!
Where will you be teaching?

I have Amica. They are one of the best very insurance companies out there. For auto insurance coverage you must have an impeccable driving record (no speeding tickets within the last 3 years).
